David Filmon Steps Down as Chair of MLT Aikins

After serving as chair of MLT Aikins for more than five years, David Filmon, Q.C., is stepping down from the firm’s executive board.

Dave served multiple terms on the board for MLT Aikins and predecessor firm Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson prior to the 2017 merger with MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman. He has been chair of the merged firm, MLT Aikins, since its creation. He was influential in the success of the merger and a steadfast leader during the global pandemic uncertainty.

“I’m proud of how this firm continually innovates and of our unwavering commitment to client service,” Dave said. “As I step down from this role, I am excited about the exceptional foundation that we have created, which will allow us to take advantage of our clear opportunities for growth in alignment with our clients.”

Dave’s dedication to client service has defined his career and term as chair. Under his leadership, MLT Aikins deepened its bench strength throughout Western Canada, offering fully integrated legal services to clients in multiple jurisdictions. The firm also launched a bevy of new and innovative practice areas, helping ensure clients’ needs are continually met in an ever-evolving legal landscape.

“Not only did Dave help build MLT Aikins into Western Canada’s Law Firm, but he has also overseen tremendous improvement and growth since its inception” said Aaron Runge, managing partner of MLT Aikins. “We cannot thank Dave enough for his leadership as chair.”

The MLT Aikins executive board will select a new chair, who will be announced in due course.
