It is with great sadness that we advise that our colleague and friend David Negus passed away on April 26, 2020 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Dave was a remarkable person who connected with everyone he met. He was brilliant, funny and kind, and a friend to us all. He was a beloved colleague and mentor who was always prepared to listen and provide advice – usually with a dose of humour. Dave took great pride in being a lawyer and he cared deeply for the firm, for those of us in it, and for his clients.
Dave graduated from the University of Manitoba with an LLB in 1994, articled with Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson LLP and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1995. He was made partner in 2004. Before he found the law, Dave had a career in human resources at Dominion Bridge Western Canada which made it natural for him to transition to develop a distinguished law practice in the area of labour and employment law.
Dave spent his practising career entirely with our firm where he made extraordinary contributions to the law and legal profession. Dave was widely regarded as a leading lawyer in the area of labour and employment law, and had a solid reputation as a skilled lawyer.
Above all else, Dave was an exceptional person.
Dave is survived by his spouse and partner of 41 years, Deb Vanance. Dave will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
