MLT Aikins participates in Manitoba Bar Association 2023 Mid-Winter Conference

The Manitoba Bar Association (MBA) will host its 2023 Mid-Winter Conference from January 19-20. Winnipeg lawyers Nicole Watson, Maria Penner, Caitlin Bouché, Harmanjit Mavi, Bret Lercher and India Saxberg will present at the two-day virtual event. Danielle Barchyn serves on the 2023 Mid-Winter Organizing Committee.

The annual Mid-Winter Meeting is a premier two-day legal conference designed especially for CBA Manitoba members. This event offers well-rounded professional development, networking, special events and much more.

Nicole Watson will co-present “Notable Cases for Civil Litigators 2021-2022.”

This session will provide an overview of noteworthy cases for civil litigators over the course of the last year. The panelists will provide summaries and discussion of noteworthy cases, and also comment on their impact on the law and civil litigation practice generally.

Maria Penner, Caitlin Bouché and India Saxberg will participate in “Roundtable in Real Estate: General Practice Tips and Procedures.”

This roundtable discussion will cover various relevant topics in real property.

Harmanjit Mavi will co-present “The Lawyer’s Tax Checklist for Estate Administration.”

The presenters will go through a checklist of tax issues that can affect an estate administration file.

Bret Lercher will co-present “Labour Relations in the Public Sector: An Update on Major Case Law Developments.”

This session will include presentation of the background, outcomes and implications of significant labour cases originating in the Manitoba public sector that reached the Supreme Court of Canada. Panelists will also discuss changes to The Human Rights Code and share their experience with and advice for handling large and complex files in multi-year litigation.
