On June 22, MLT Aikins partnered with the TMX Group (TSX and TSX Venture Exchange) and EY to present an exclusive and well attended presentation and panel discussion at UBC Robson Square in downtown Vancouver for high-potential early-stage technology companies considering their funding and growth options.
A panel of capital market experts including Mahdi Shams, an associate in the MLT Aikins Vancouver office, Nicole Poirier, a partner at EY, and Chris Birkett, Interim Director, Capital Formation of the TMX Group, discussed various issues facing a technology company intending to go public in Canada.
The event also featured an in-depth interview with Hamed Shahbazi, Chairman and CEO of Vancouver-based fintech company TIO Networks. Hamed spoke about his company’s early growth, pivots, funding strategy, international expansion, and its pending $300 million sale to PayPal. He shared insights into his early decision to fund his company’s growth via the public markets, rather than with venture capital funding.
