Chad is a projects lawyer who practises in the areas of real estate, construction (including procurement and contracts), environmental, financing and aboriginal law. In addition to maintaining a general corporate/commercial practice, Chad advises clients in a variety of industries with a particular focus on energy, infrastructure and natural resource projects.

  • Advised the developer on a 12 MW biomass to power project in Alberta
  • Advised a Canadian developer on projects for baseload electricity generation using biomass fuel sources in remote off-grid First nation communities across Canada
  • Acted for the developer and feedstock provider on a 90 million gallon renewable fuel oil (RFO) bioenergy project in Quebec

  • Acting for a First Nation on a 20 MW flare gas to power project in Saskatchewan

  • Advised Vancouver-based developer on run-of-river projects in Northern Saskatchewan

  • Advised multinational pharmaceutical manufacturer on battery energy storage project in Ontario
  • Advised large public mental health care facility in Ontario on battery storage project
  • Advised large multinational food manufacturer on battery storage project in Ontario

  • Advised major tenant and professional sports team in Saskatchewan on construction of stadium in City of Regina.
  • Acted for a Saskatoon-based developer partnered with one of the largest Toronto-based developers in Canada on the land development and construction of interchanges and bypasses on a new subdivision in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
  • Counsel for Italian contractor on elevated guideway portions of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) rapid rail transit system in Montreal
  • Counsel for Saskatchewan-based electrical contractor on road works in Manitoba

Prior to joining MLT Aikins, Chad was at a national law firm for more than seven years where he was an equity partner.

Chad resided in Finland for seven years. During that time, he worked at a leading northern European business law firm based in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. Chad is currently Honorary Consul for Finland and maintains close connections to Europe.
