Dean Hutchison oversees our insolvency and restructuring practice area in Alberta. He has acted for clients in all manners of insolvency and restructuring matters across Western Canada, including companies in financial distress, secured lenders and unsecured creditors, and court officers.

Dean advises and represents clients in proceedings concerning the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act, the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, as well as court mandated receiverships. He regularly acts for financial institutions, commercial lending companies, lien holders, unsecured and trade creditors, distressed investors, financially distressed companies, trustees in bankruptcy, receivers and court-appointed officers. His insolvency and restructuring experience includes the negotiation of forbearance agreements, proposals to creditors (both formal and informal), creditor realizations, enforcement of security, foreclosures, receiverships, bankruptcies, and the restructuring of financially distressed companies.

His commercial litigation practice includes shareholder disputes, banking litigation, contractual disputes, landlord/tenant and lease disputes, lien litigation and real estate litigation. He has resolved disputes through litigation as well as through arbitration and mediation.

Dean has appeared before the Superior Courts of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, the Appellate Courts of Alberta and Saskatchewan and administrative tribunals such as the Human Rights Board and the Municipal Government Board.
