Brent is a partner practising in the areas of civil and commercial litigation and administrative law, including:
- Commercial matters including debt collection, shareholder disputes, oppression remedies, director and officer duties; assisting companies with court approvals as required in relation to corporate arrangements and shareholder meetings
- Insurance litigation including first-party claims, subrogated claims and coverage issues arising out of various areas and policies such as commercial general liability, casualty and property, directors and officers as well as life and disability
- Professional regulation and negligence, including acting as prosecution counsel for self-governing professional associations and providing professional regulators with advice on issues of governance, policy and procedure
- Tort litigation in the areas of personal injury, product liability, construction claims and defamation, among others
- Injunctive proceedings related to the misuse of confidential information and breaches of non-solicitation/non-competition covenants
- Experience representing clients at mediations and various alternative dispute resolution schemes
Brent has appeared before all levels of Court in Manitoba, the British Columbia Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Brent previously served as in-house legal counsel for Great West Life Assurance Company (2005-2006).
