Reis Pagtakhan to serve as Co-Chair of the Premier of Manitoba’s Business and Jobs Council’s Trade Diversification – Internal and International Trade Subcommittee

We’re proud to announce that MLT Aikins lawyer Reis Pagtakhan has been appointed as Co-Chair of Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew’s Business and Jobs Council’s Trade Diversification – Internal and International Trade subcommittee.
The Subcommittee, newly formed this year, has been mandated by the Premier to provide strategic advice and actionable recommendations to the Premier and the Manitoba Government on strengthening the province’s economic resilience through expanded internal Canadian trade, diversified global market access and reduced reliance on the United States as a dominant export destination.
The Subcommittee’s work would be aligned with Premier Kinew’s direction that diversification is essential to:
- Protect Canadian sovereignty and economic security in light of destabilizing U.S. trade actions
- Reduce internal barriers to trade across provinces and territories
- Strengthen Canadian unity through deeper interprovincial economic cooperation
- Protect and expand good family-supporting jobs for Manitobans
Reis, who previously served as the Chair of the Premier’s Business and Jobs Council Immigration and Skills Alignment Subcommittee, has more than 30 years of experience in his corporate immigration practice and has worked with foreign entrepreneurs and companies in setting-up businesses in Canada. He was recently awarded the 2025 Manitoba Bar Association’s Community Involvement Award and has served on boards as diverse as the Community Legal Education Association, Immigrant Centre Manitoba and CPHR Manitoba, as well as a number of faith-based schools, charities and organizations. He has also been an active member of Winnipeg’s Filipino-Canadian community, including serving as a Folklorama Ambassador and other organizations.
MLT Aikins would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to Reis on this significant accomplishment.
