On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, MLT Aikins partner Amyn Lalji will moderate a panel at the 2024 First Nations Energy Summit. The panel is themed “Financing the Energy Transition: Access to Capital.”

The panellists will discuss securing access to capital to advance clean energy projects, especially those led or partnered by Indigenous Nations. The panel of financial professionals and industry leaders will focus on innovative ways to unlock funding for Indigenous-led clean energy initiatives. The panel includes:

Clean Energy Association of British Columbia (Clean Energy BC) is hosting the 2024 First Nations Energy Summit on December 2-3, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver. As a platform for learning and collaboration, the summit brings together a diverse group of participants including representatives from various First Nations communities from across British Columbia, industry, government and academic institutions.

Based in Vancouver, Amyn Lalji has more than 20 years of experience representing Indigenous clients in negotiations and advocacy in respect of Canada’s largest resource-based projects and economic development initiatives. He also provides advice to Indigenous governments, leaders and development corporations in many areas of the law. Amyn provides exceptional service and representation for Indigenous clients and has been recognized as a leading lawyer in Canada practising in the area of Aboriginal law.

Amyn regularly represents Indigenous clients with respect to the development of mines, hydroelectric projects, oil and gas projects, pipelines, aggregate projects and other large scale resource development projects. In particular, he has represented First Nations across Canada in the negotiation and implementation of various collaborative agreements with industry and government across a broad range of resource sectors. In addition to negotiations, Amyn advocates for the section 35 rights of clients before various courts and tribunals including the Federal Court of Appeal, Impact Assessment Agency of Canada, Canadian Energy Regulator, Canadian Nuclear Safety Agency, Alberta Utilities Commission and the Alberta Energy Regulator.
