MLT Aikins is pleased to announce the appointment of partner Meaghan M. Conroy, as a Justice of the Federal Court. 

The federal Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, announced the appointment of Justice Meaghan M. Conroy on December 19, 2024. The Federal Court of Canada has jurisdiction over, amongst other things, Crown actions, immigration, citizenship, national security, Indigenous matters, federal human rights, admiralty, customs, intellectual property, federal labour relations, transportation and communications. Based in Edmonton, Meaghan earned a BA in 1996 and an LLB in 2000 from the University of Alberta. She clerked for the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Court of King’s Bench, before being called to the Alberta Bar in 2001. 

Meaghan has been a partner at MLT Aikins since 2013 and practised Aboriginal and administrative law, with a particular focus on environmental and regulatory processes governing industrial and infrastructure developments. She has appeared before numerous administrative tribunals and all levels of court including the Supreme Court of Canada. 

Meaghan frequently presented on topics related to Treaty and Aboriginal rights as well as administrative law. She was repeatedly recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada and Lexpert for Aboriginal law, Energy and Infrastructure. She contributes to the larger community, which includes volunteering as a Board member for a large Edmonton based not-for-profit  focused on ending homelessness.
