On Tuesday, June 11 and Thursday, June 13, 2024, MLT Aikins partner Jessica Jensen will be speaking at the 2024 American Immigration Lawyers Association’s Global Migration Forum and Annual Conference AC24 in Chicago, Illinois.
As a key member of the MLT Aikins immigration team, Jessica brings a wealth of experience to her panels. She has a deep understanding of the intricacies involved in immigration law and attracting top talent to Canada as well as processing spousal work authorization incident to arrival in the U.S.
At the Global Migration Forum, Jessica will speak on “Competition for tech talent: Which country is the most innovative in attracting and maintaining foreign workers in tech positions?” The global competition for tech talent is intensifying with jurisdictions worldwide trying attract skilled tech workers through immigration and residency options. The tech sector is an evolving landscape of jurisdiction-specific criteria and accelerated pathways for tech professionals to settle and thrive.
In addition, on Thursday, June 13, Jessica will speak at AC24 at a Small Group Strategy Session on the topic of “Spousal employment: E Spouses, L-2 Spouses, H-4 EADs, Adjustment EADs (Intermediate).” In the face of visa and green card processing delays, dependent spouses seeking employment have options such as obtaining an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) or leveraging statuses that permit work without an EAD. The panelists will discuss these alternatives, along with renewal procedures, premium processing and the nuances of incidental work for foreign employers.
Jessica Jensen practises U.S. and Canadian immigration law and maintains law licences in both countries. She is a an Elected Director for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Board of Governors and running for re-election at this year’s conference. She is also the incoming Vice Chair of the Manitoba Bar Association (MBA) Immigration Law Section Executive. Jessica holds various CBP liaison positions, regularly discussing issues and updates with Border Agents and immigration agency representatives.
