David advises clients on all matters related to commercial real estate, including acquisitions, sales, leases and various project financing matters. He has also assisted with corporate acquisitions, reorganizations, energy projects and development and construction related matters.  He is a part of the firm’s commercial group for local real estate matters.

He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2023 and the Alberta Bar in 2017, after receiving his JD from the University of Manitoba in 2016. Prior to law school, he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alberta in 2011.

  • Acted on behalf of lead syndicate partner in the acquisition and purchase financing of Edmonton City Centre Mall, TD Tower and Oxford Tower for $320 million, and including diligence of over 40 years’ worth of complex land ownership arrangements, easements, and City of Edmonton development and pedway obligations
  • Acted on behalf of Slate REIT in the $1.14-billion purchase of a mixed office and retail portfolio from Cominar REIT, which included diligence and negotiation of leasing, easement and other land arrangements for 16 Alberta properties
  • Acted on behalf of Lithia Motors Inc. in the acquisition of Pfaff Motors car and motorcycle dealerships across Canada, valued at over $900 million, including diligence review, corporate structuring and acquisition of 8 freehold properties in Ontario and more than 20 leasehold sites across various Canadian provinces
  • Acted on behalf of the administrative agent in the financing of the 900MW Cascade Power Project valued at $1.5 billion, which involved the negotiation and arrangement of complex titled and public land security
  • Acted on behalf of the lender in a foreclosure and takeback of Hilton Garden, as well as the creation of the limited partnership for the ownership and $54 million financing of the hotel
  • Acted on behalf of the developer in the $39.1 million financing of the Brooks II 26.5MW solar project, which included negotiation of certain land access and proximity rights for the construction of the project
  • Acted on behalf of the Vendor in the $90 million disposition of ICON II in the ICON mixed industrial and office business park
  • Acted for a developer in the creation of a limited partnership structure for private placement investment and eventual acquisition of a failed housing development from OMERS and agreements with builders for the ongoing construction and disposition of homes
  • Acted for a national pork producer in the negotiation and drafting of agreements for a development and lease-back arrangement for the construction and operation of 5 hog barns in Saskatchewan valued at approximately $12.5 million
  • Acted on behalf of the administrative agent in the negotiation and closing of a $170 million credit facility for the development of 400,000 sq. ft. of retail buildings in southeast Calgary
  • Acted on behalf of CapREIT in the closing of a $391-million acquisition of a 1,500 unit multi-building apartment portfolio in Halifax, Nova Scotia from QuadReal Property Group.
  • Acted on the sale of the Erin Mills Town Centre mall in Mississauga Ontario for $272 million.
  • Acted on the sale of a 50% interest in Lawrence Plaza located in Toronto and creation of a co-ownership venture arrangement for the redevelopment and construction of commercial retail and condominium units
  • Acted for lenders in the $900-million financing of the 495MW wind turbine project located in Buffalo Plains Wind Farm
  • Acted for a senior care residence developer in the restructuring of three development partnerships in Vancouver
  • Acted for the vendor in the sale and vendor take back financing on a nationwide portfolio of retail stores across Canada for $130 million
  • Acted for the vendor in the sale of an Alberta portfolio of industrial warehouses for $325 million
  • Acted for the owner/operator in the sale of commercial units for $250 million and a leaseback to the operator for the operation of a gaming and entertainment business
  • Acted for the purchaser of an iconic downtown Calgary high rise for $50 million
  • Acted on behalf of a governing authority in the development, construction and sale of rail infrastructure facilities in Toronto, Ontario
  • Acted for the purchaser of a short rail line terminal situated on 300 acres of Alberta land strategically located to serve one of the largest industrial hubs in Alberta
  • Acted for the developer in the negotiation of a ground lease to construct a 1,800MW combined cycle power generation facility
  • Acted for the purchaser in a $200 million Alberta portfolio acquisition of recently developed senior care residences
  • Acted for the vendor in the $200 million sale of a portfolio of waste well facilities located in northern Alberta
