On January 31 and February 1, 2026, MLT Aikins franchising lawyers Melissa Cattini and Caitlin Madden will be speaking at the 2026 National Franchise Show in Winnipeg, Manitoba, joined in attending the show by lawyer Carter Liebzeit and articling student-at-law Moira Kennedy.
Melissa will be hosting interactive workshop How to Franchise Your Business and presenting Understanding the Franchise Agreement, while Caitlin will be presenting Understanding the Franchise Disclosure Document: What it MUST include and WHY it Matters.
How to Franchise Your Business
On Saturday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m., Melissa will be hosting How to Franchise Your Business.
Within this workshop, Melissa will explore how to structure franchises and the key documents needed to get started, provide a high-level overview of disclosure obligations and provincial franchise legislation and offer guidance on brand protection, as well as high-level tips for setting up franchisees for success.

Understanding the Franchise Agreement
On Saturday, January 31 at 12:30 p.m., Melissa will be presenting Understanding the Franchise Agreement.
Within this one-hour seminar, Melissa will be identifying key terms within franchise agreements and what they mean for rights, risks and obligations in the short and long-term, as well as providing guidance on due diligence, assembling the right “team” and how to get clarity from franchisors.
Understanding the Franchise Disclosure Document: What it MUST include and WHY it Matters
On Sunday, February 1 at 2:00 p.m., Caitlin will be presenting Understanding the Franchise Disclosure Document: What it MUST include and WHY it Matters.
Within this one-hour seminar, Caitlin will cover the role of the franchise disclosure document (FDD) and why it is important, how to navigate the FDD to understand the franchised business (including risks and obligations) and offer advice on using the FDD to conduct diligence and evaluate franchise opportunities.
