University of Saskatchewan’s inaugural MLT Aikins Indigenous Scholarship in Law awarded to Jreyden Bangloy

Jreyden Bangloy, a first-year law student at the University of Saskatchewan’s College of Law, has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the MLT Aikins Indigenous Scholarship in Law in the amount of $6,000.
Jreyden was one of many extremely qualified applicants who applied for the scholarship. He was recommended for the award by the College of Law due to his academic achievements and interest in practising Aboriginal Law.
“I am extremely thankful to be selected for the MLT Aikins Indigenous Scholarship in Law,” Jreyden said in a statement to the University of Saskatchewan. “This award has helped me overcome the financial struggles from moving, allowed me to visit my family after finishing the winter term and will help in my return to the College of Law for my second year. Financial struggles are overwhelming and stressful for students, and an award such as this significantly helps with these struggles.”

The scholarship, which was established as a part of a $500,000 donation made in 2025 by the firm to the University of Saskatchewan College of Law, is intended to help relieve financial barriers for Indigenous students entering law school and to foster the development of the next generation of lawyers.
“We are proud to support the University of Saskatchewan College of Law and its students,” said MLT Aikins managing partner Aaron Runge last year. “We have a long history with the USask College of Law, with one-third of our partners being graduates of the law school. By investing in the education of law students, we are not only helping them succeed, but we are also contributing to the continued growth and vitality of the legal community in Saskatchewan and Western Canada more broadly.”
MLT Aikins is committed to promoting Indigenous perspectives and representation in the legal community. We consistently work to foster a learning environment that supports Indigenous success in the legal profession and beyond. We are pleased to congratulate Jreyden as this year’s scholarship recipient and we look forward to student achievements through our Indigenous Scholarship in Law for years to come.
