MLT Aikins is proud to be the opening night reception partner for this year’s Global Energy Show (GES), taking place from June 9–11, 2026, in Calgary.

The GES is a major international energy conference hosted in Calgary, bringing together senior executives, policymakers, Indigenous leaders, investors and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of energy, infrastructure and project development.

Speaking at the conference will be MLT Aikins lawyer Billie Fortier, who will be participating in a panel examining how Indigenous Loan Guarantee Programs are enabling First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities to secure equity positions in major energy and infrastructure projects. Joining Billie on the panel will be moderator Stephen Buffalo (President and CEO, Indian Resource Council), the Honourable Rajan Sawhney (Minister of Indigenous Relations, Government of Alberta), Chana Martineau (CEO, Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corp) and Justin Bourque (Founder and President, Âsokan Generational Developments). Attendees can expect to gain clarity on how equity financing structures work in practice and underscore strong demand for expanded loan guarantee capacity. The session will frame Indigenous ownership as a driver of project certainty and social license.
