Christian Monnin appointed Justice of Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba

MLT Aikins is pleased to announce that Christian Monnin has been appointed Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba.
On March 7, 2025, the Honourable Arif Virani, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, made the announcement, wishing the new judges “every success as they take on their new roles.”
“I am confident they will serve Manitobans well as members of the Court of King’s Bench of Manitoba,” said Minister Virani.
A partner with MLT Aikins in Winnipeg since 2020, Christian practised in the firm’s advocacy group in the commercial and civil litigation, with a focus on labour and employment law. His work also included constitutional and public law, international and domestic commercial arbitrations, and administrative advocacy with an emphasis on regulatory matters and labour law matters.
Christian completed his LLB at the University of Moncton in 2001, and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2002. A few years later, in 2006, he was called to the Ontario Bar, and received a Restricted Appearance Certificate from the Nunavut Bar in 2010.
An experienced litigator, Christian appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Courts (Trial and Appeal), the Manitoba Court of King’s Bench and the Manitoba Court of Appeal, the New Brunswick Court of King’s Bench, the Ontario Superior Court, the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador (Trial and Appeal) and the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench. He has also appeared before various labour boards, commissions, administrative tribunals, grievance arbitrators, House of Commons committees and tribunals appointed under the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) arbitration rules.
Christian is fluent in French and highly involved in the Franco-Manitoban community. He is past president of l’Association des juristes d’expression française du Manitoba, past president of the Société de la francophonie manitobaine and past co-chair, Francophone Affairs Advisory Council of Manitoba. In 2021, he was the recipient of the Manitoba Bar Association Pro Bono Award for his work on behalf of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs in the Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique v. British Columbia (Education) appeal which involved French-language rights in education.
During his career, Christian also received recognition as a leading lawyer from publications such as Benchmark Canada, Lexpert’s Canadian Legal Directory, Lexpert: Leading Lawyers Under 40, Chambers Canada and Best Lawyers Canada, among others.
