Shirley Yan elected board member of the Vancouver Bar Association
On November 26, 2024, MLT Aikins associate Shirley Yan was elected by members of the Vancouver Bar Association as a board member for the next two years.
The Vancouver Bar Association (VBA) is a 1,000-member strong organization serving lawyers and the legal community. The VBA is an integral part of the Vancouver legal community and offers various opportunities for lawyers to get involved in the legal profession in a meaningful way. The VBA hosts social, educational and professional events throughout the year.
Shirley is an associate in the firm’s Vancouver office with a focus on commercial litigation. She has worked on both litigation and solicitor matters, including shareholder disputes, intellectual property enforcement and litigation. She has acted for a range of clients, including shareholders and directors of corporations, real estate purchasers and vendors, financial institutions, employers, employees and government subsidiaries. She has appeared before the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Provincial Court of British Columbia and the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal. She has also assisted with disputes before the Court of Appeal of British Columbia and arbitration or mediation.
Prior to entering law school, Shirley obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia with a major in English literature and a minor in commerce. She is also a former registered pharmacy technician, having worked in both community and hospital pharmacies for more than 11 years. Shirley is fluent in Mandarin.
