On November 12, 2024, Winnipeg-based lawyer Andrew Konopelny was elected as a member of the board of directors of the Ukrainian Canadian Bar Association (UCBA) at the UCBA’s annual general meeting at the University Club of Toronto.

The annual general meeting featured a fireside chat with the Honourable Arif Virani, P.C., M.P., Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada.

Andrew is looking forward to serving on the UCBA and promoting its mission, particularly in expanding the network of legal professionals of Ukrainian origin in Western Canada.

The mission statement of the UCBA is “to maintain a national network of lawyers, judges, paralegals and law students of Ukrainian origin in order to create professional opportunities, to mentor law students and young lawyers, to conduct professional development, as well as to assist Ukraine with respect to the development of its legal system. When necessary, the UCBA will advocate on behalf of its membership and the greater Ukrainian Canadian community and will assist the Canadian Ukrainian Congress and the Ukrainian Canadian, Professional and Business Association in their activities.”
