On Friday, January 9, 2026, MLT Aikins lawyers Erica Klassen and Samer Awadh will speak at the 99th Annual Regina District Association of Rural Municipalities (RDARM) Convention in Regina.  

Erica and Samer will discuss the role municipalities play in regulating wind and solar projects, including considerations of municipal jurisdiction, planning, benefits and impacts. 

About Erica 

Erica practises in the areas of Indigenous, environmental, regulatory and administrative law and is experienced with a variety of administrative and regulatory matters including judicial reviews and statutory appeals, First Nations election appeals, project permitting and environmental assessment processes. 

She is the current chair of the CBA Saskatchewan Environmental Law section and has represented clients before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, the Saskatchewan Court of King’s Bench and Provincial Court of Saskatchewan, the Alberta Court of King’s Bench, the Canada Energy Regulator, the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada and the Alberta Utilities Commission. 

About Samer 

Samer advises clients in Saskatchewan, Alberta and abroad on matters involving mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities, commercial lending, governance and other corporate and commercial matters. 

Samer has acted for clients on some of Saskatchewan’s largest clean energy projects, including as counsel to the owner and manager of a $260-million wind energy project and to a syndicate of Canadian and international banks in their $280-million financing of one of the largest wind energy projects in Saskatchewan.
