Two trademark agents at MLT Aikins have been honoured for their work in helping companies build and maintain their brand identities.

Both Lorraine Pinsent and Isabelle Gagné have been recognized in the latest 2025 edition of the World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000, an organization that ranks leading professionals and firms for their outstanding work in obtaining, protecting, managing, enforcing and monetizing trademarks.

What’s in a name?

Companies spend years building their trademark or “brand identity” in association with their goods and  services. That trademark helps them stand out in the marketplace.

But what happens when another business copies or creates a similar brand, causing confusion in the marketplace? Perhaps this results in consumers associating the goods and/or services of one company with another—one that may not have the same good reputation. Now what?

The Trademark practice group at MLT Aikins is happy to answer these questions and more.

Lorraine Pinsent has worked as a registered Trademark Agent before the Canadian Trademarks Office for more than 25 years. This year marks the 13th year that Lorraine has been honoured as a “recommended individual” in the latest edition of the World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000.

Lorraine leads the trademark practice at MLT Aikins where she manages several large international trademark portfolios. She also focuses on trademark oppositions, cancellation proceedings, licensing and international trademark protection.

Lorraine enjoys educating the trademark professionals of tomorrow. She is both a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) Trademark Agent Training Committee and the International Trademark Association (INTA) Trademark Office Practices Committee.

Isabelle Gagné, meanwhile, joined the team in 2023 and has over 20 years of experience working in the trademark area. This is the first year that she has been honoured as a “recommended individual” in the latest edition of the World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000. Isabelle has considerable experience advising clients on next steps with their trademark matters, with a focus on trademark clearance searches and prosecution.

MLT Aikins is pleased to see the WTR 1000 recognize Lorraine and Isabelle for their commitment to their clients and the trademark practice. If you have any questions or concerns about your  company’s trademark, feel free to reach out to Lorraine, Isabelle, or anyone else within the Trademark practice group.
