Four MLT Aikins lawyers recognized in Lexpert Special Edition: Litigation 2023

Deron Kuski, Doug Hodson, Jeff Lee and Shaunt Parthev of MLT Aikins have been recognized as leading lawyers in the new Lexpert Special Edition: Litigation 2023.

Lexpert, the industry-leading publication, celebrates Canada’s top lawyers, and this edition explores trends in litigation. MLT Aikins extends heartfelt congratulations to Deron, Doug, Jeff and Shaunt.

Deron Kuski, K.C., practises in commercial litigation, construction litigation, constitutional law and all aspects of creditor and commercial leasing law, with a focus on complex commercial and construction dispute resolution. A partner in our Regina office, Deron was recently inducted into the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, has acted for the Government of Saskatchewan in the Supreme Court of Canada on the carbon tax challenge, has acted for many large construction project owners on large arbitrations and superior court actions throughout North America, and has also been involved in some very large and complex shareholder disputes.

Doug Hodson, K.C., a partner in our Saskatoon office, focuses on commercial litigation. He carries  extensive experience in complex arbitrations, transportation law and shareholder disputes. Doug has argued cases before all levels of court in Saskatoon, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario before the Federal Courts and the Supreme Court of Canada. He served as counsel for Canadian National Railway (v. McKercher LLP, 2013 SCC 39) before the Supreme Court of Canada in a successful appeal that Lexpert Magazine named as the most significant case in Canadian litigation for 2013.

Jeff Lee, K.C, also a partner at our Saskatoon office, represents companies in financial distress, lenders and court officers in restructuring and insolvency proceedings across Western Canada. He has been counsel for a wide range of clients, including companies in the technology, energy, real estate, agriculture, manufacturing and aviation sectors across Western Canada. Jeff has appeared before Superior Courts in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and New Brunswick, Appellate Courts in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and before the Federal Court, Tax Court and Supreme Court of Canada.

Shaunt Parthev, K.C., is a partner alongside Jeff and Doug in Saskatoon. He focuses on defending complex multi-party claims, with special emphasis on class actions, mining and industrial site litigation, large loss construction claims, and insurance actions. Over the years he has successfully represented the interests of SaskEnergy Incorporated, Federated Cooperatives Limited, K+S Potash Canada, and SGI Canada, among many other insurers. Shaunt was involved in one of the largest civil actions in Canadian history dealing with insurance and mining issues.
