Four MLT Aikins lawyers named in 2026 Lexpert Special Edition: Energy

Thomas Collopy
Tom has significant transactional experience in the energy sector, advising upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas and oilfield services companies, in addition to corporate, receiver-manager/trustee and secured lending clients, on a variety of domestic and international energy matters. Tom has also assisted on a wide variety of commercial transactions and corporate law matters. He has played a role in numerous energy transactions, including deals involving oil and gas, coal and other-mined commodities, as well as renewable energy transactions, including deals involving solar, wind and biomass projects.
Rangi Jeerakathil
Rangi is a Saskatoon partner who practises in the areas of environmental, energy and Aboriginal law. Rangi advises industrial and mining companies on federal and provincial environmental assessments, fisheries, water, and contaminated sites issues. He has advised clients on environmental compliance, environmental permitting, environmental due diligence, and Aboriginal law issues Rangi has also provided legal guidance on uranium mining and nuclear generation projects, as well as on impact benefit agreements involving Indigenous communities and Indigenous claims. He advises clients on regulatory issues in both de-regulated and regulated natural gas and electricity sectors.
Nigel Thompson
A partner based in Winnipeg, Nigel maintains a general corporate and commercial practice, with particular emphasis on environmental law and mining law matters. He regularly advises clients on environmental compliance, liability issues and the acquisition and financing of mineral leases and mining claims. Nigel has also chaired the Environmental, Energy and Resources Law Section of the Manitoba Bar Association and is recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada for his work in environmental and natural resources law.
Grant Vogel
Grant is based in Edmonton and practises primarily in banking, commercial lending, real estate and corporate/commercial law. He has significant experience advising publicly traded and privately owned oil field service businesses in both domestic and cross-border transactions. Grant has been recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for his work with Banking & Financial Institutions and Energy: Oil & Gas.
