MLT Aikins to sponsor and present at LGAA Conference

MLT Aikins is proud to be a silver sponsor of the LGAA Conference and Trade Show, taking place June 17–19, 2026, in Canmore, Alberta.
Hosted by the Local Government Administration Association of Alberta (LGAA), the annual conference brings together municipal administrative leaders and professionals from across the province for learning, networking and collaboration. The program features educational sessions, keynote speakers and opportunities for attendees to share ideas with peers on emerging issues affecting municipal organizations.
As part of this year’s conference, MLT Aikins lawyers Milad Alishahi and Sharon Au will present “The Future of Canadian Nuclear Projects: What Municipalities Need to Know” on Thursday, June 18.
Canada’s renewed commitment to nuclear energy has left many municipalities with questions about the development of these complex projects and the impacts on their communities. This presentation is specifically designed to provide municipal governments with a broad overview of the current nuclear landscape and how municipalities fit into the nuclear energy space.
Milad and Sharon will discuss the future of Canadian nuclear projects, drawing on their significant experience in the uranium mining and transport space as well as regulatory, construction, intellectual property, technology and community engagement areas to outline the regulatory process (including IA consultation, CNSC licensing, provincial consultation, regulatory authorities, limitations and more) and answering municipalities’ questions regarding their role with nuclear energy.

We have extensive experience on governance issues facing municipal governments and regulatory bodies including various Crown Corporations, government agencies and health districts, social and seniors housing management boards together with a number of First Nations and their associated legal entities.
