MLT Aikins has been recognized by Canadian Lawyer as one of the Top Western Firms for 2025, having been voted as the #1 firm in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan and #2 in BC and Alberta – the only firm to have been placed in the top across all four provinces.

This annual ranking celebrates full-service law firms that demonstrate outstanding legal service and coverage across Western Canada.

Lynsey Gaudin, MLT Aikins executive board member, partner based in Vancouver and recent recipient of a Lexpert Rising Stars award, noted that “this recognition – as well as our continued growth as a firm – reflects our commitment to providing exceptional service where our clients need us most. We’re proud of the depth we’ve built across the West and look forward to continuing this momentum.”

In the last 12 months, MLT Aikins has welcomed more than 70 new lawyers across the four Western provinces, bringing the firm’s total lawyer count to approximately 370 as of December 2025. Earlier this year, MLT Aikins opened its seventh office location on the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation’s Asimakaniseekan Askiy Reserve and the firm continues to expand its legal service offerings and specialty areas.

To make its determination, Canadian Lawyer surveyed readers, asking them to rank firms based on regional service coverage, client base, notable mandates, service excellence and legal skill. To qualify, firms must operate exclusively in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia and/or the Northern Territories and offer a broad range of legal services. Results of the most recent Lexpert peer review survey were also considered.

“Being named one of the Top Western Firms is a reflection of our team’s dedication and reach,” said Aaron Runge, MLT Aikins managing partner. “With the largest presence of any law firm in Western Canada, we’re uniquely positioned to serve clients across the region. Our commitment remains focused on providing exceptional service wherever our clients need us most.”
