As an experienced litigator and leader in emerging technology law, Erika develops tailored legal strategies that support her clients’ business objectives in fast-changing industries. With a deep understanding of how litigation risk can impact a business, she provides proactive advice to avoid exposure and future disputes while also delivering strong results for her clients in the courtroom.

Erika’s experience spans a variety of sectors including construction, energy, technology and insurance. She has achieved success at all court levels in Alberta. She is also an active community member and long-time volunteer with organizations such as the Canadian Bar Association, University of Calgary Student Legal Assistance, the University of Calgary Law School Moot Programs, Pro Bono Law Alberta and Calgary Legal Guidance.

  • First lawyer in Canada to litigate the application and success appeal pursuant to the federal aviation regulations governing drones; the reported decision, R v Shah2017 ABQB 144, influenced the development of drone specific regulations in Canada
  • Brought and resolved an urgent injunction application involving the misuse of tokens on blockchain; this litigation marked one of the first hearings in Alberta relating to blockchain technology
  • Resolved and represented parties in multi-million dollar lawsuits relating to pipeline leaks and explosions, and solar powered system failures
  • Led multiple clients through ransomware attacks as a breach coach, resolving the breach and mitigating the resulting impact on the clients business, reputation and future legal risks
  • Opposed multiple appeals to the Court of Appeal of a judgment debtor maintaining her client’s registration of a multi-million dollar foreign judgment and its enforcement in Alberta against the debtor, 2024 ABCA 144
  • Successful removal of Certificate of Lis Penden (CLPs) registered against a client’s corporate land in an shareholders’ dispute/oppression claim, 2024 ABKB 7
