Five MLT Aikins authors recognized in Autumn 2025 Mondaq Thought Leader Awards

On November 5, 2025, Mondaq released the fall edition of its 2025 Thought Leadership Awards, recognizing five MLT Aikins authors.
Mondaq is a website that aggregates content published by law firms and other professional services firms. The awards, which are given out twice a year, recognize top-performing articles and authors internationally, are determined by total readership over the preceding six months.
The winners are:
- Kevin Mehi, for The importance of regulatory and legal due diligence when acquiring a renewable energy project (Energy and Natural Resources, Environmental Law)
- Thomas Collopy, Matthew Douglas, Erin Eccleston and Jonathan Troyer, for Powering the future: Canada’s leadership in nuclear energy and small modular reactors (Energy and Natural Resources, Environmental Law)
About our award-winning authors:
Thomas Collopy
Tom is a corporate/commercial lawyer located in the firm’s Calgary office with extensive experience in energy and natural resources. He has significant transactional experience in the energy sector, advising upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas and oilfield services companies, in addition to corporate, receiver-manager/trustee and secured lending clients, on a variety of domestic and international energy matters.
Matthew Douglas
Matthew Douglas is an associate lawyer in the firm’s Regina office, obtaining a Juris Doctor from the University of Saskatchewan in 2024. While studying law, he completed an independent directed research paper on the privacy and security safeguard requirements within open banking and participated in the Donald G.H. Bowman National Tax Moot.
Erin Eccleston
Erin, a partner in the firm’s Saskatoon office, is a member of the MLT Aikins corporate group. While Erin acts for clients across a diverse range of industries, she has a particular focus on energy, banking and aviation. Erin advises Canadian and international companies on a variety of matters, including acquisitions and dispositions of mineral dispositions and projects, joint venture and option agreements, supply chain agreements as well as royalty and commodity agreements.
Kevin Mehi
Kevin Mehi is a corporate/commercial lawyer, practicing in Winnipeg and Calgary, who focuses on energy matters and other transactional matters. Kevin advises renewable energy clients on a variety of corporate matters, including acquisitions and divestitures, project structuring and other transactional matters. His experience includes advising various renewable energy stakeholders throughout the project development cycle.
Jonathan Troyer
Jonathan, a partner in the firm’s Calgary office, advises clients across a number of industries in connection with transformative projects, M&A transactions, joint ventures, other complex commercial collaborations. His experience includes playing a legal project management role in connection with a Western Canadian greenfield small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear project, and acting in a legal project management or key advisory role to owners, investors, and suppliers in connection with the nuclear facility refurbishment, biofuel projects, energy and mining infrastructure projects, and other projects and transactions within the energy sector.
