Our foreign investment law practice focuses on:

  • Supporting foreign investors and Canadian businesses with the notification and review regimes of the Investment Canada Act, including national security and cultural sector review regimes
  • Working with investors and Canadian businesses on structuring and risk mitigation
  • Advising investors and Canadian businesses regarding sector-specific foreign investment regimes (e.g. uranium production, telecommunications, financial institutions, etc.)

Our trade law practice focuses on:

  • Representing businesses in trade remedy proceedings, including anti-dumping/countervailing duties, safeguard measures and retaliatory tariffs
  • Advising businesses regarding government communications and security, including access to information requests and lobbying registration compliance
  • Advising businesses in connection with internal investigations and preventative compliance, including foreign anti-corruption, economic sanctions, export controls and controlled goods

MLT Aikins also has the depth of knowledge to assist domestic and international clients in communications law matters, including telecommunications licensing, broadcasting licensing, spectrum management, foreign ownership restrictions, policy matters and competitive disputes before Canadian courts and regulatory bodies such as the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and Ad Standards Canada.

Our competition law merger experience includes assisting clients in preparing required notifications to the Bureau and in drafting arguments in support of applications for advance ruling certificates and no action letters from the Commissioner of Competition to permit merger transactions to proceed.
