John Agioritis to speak at ISSA Mining Safety Conference in Saskatoon

On Wednesday, September 23, MLT Aikins lawyer John Agioritis, K.C. will be speaking at the ISSA Mining Safety Conference in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. MLT Aikins lawyers Erin Eccleston, Scott Masson and Katelyn Jones will also be in attendance.

This session will canvass the current state of the jurisprudence in Saskatchewan and Canada on the topic of supervisor liability and criminal negligence under the Criminal Code. Recent cases will be discussed and reviewed with the intention of bringing home key concepts in liability prevention and enhancement of safety culture.

Lived Experience from a Legal Practitioner: Navigating Due Diligence in the Mining Context (Technical Session)

This session will canvass legal due diligence obligations in the context of mining operations. Relevant Canadian case studies will be examined, and key learnings will be shared with session participants.

Lived Experience from a Legal Practitioner: Navigating Due Diligence, Supervisory Obligations and Criminal Negligence Laws in Canada in the Mining Context (Short Course)

This four-hour session will canvass a variety of legal topic areas in Canadian health and safety law as it pertains to mining operations. The various topics will include:

• Navigating prime contractor obligations and supervisory obligations in the mining context
• Establishing due diligence and creating frameworks that will enhance safety and withstand legal challenge
• Understanding criminal negligence laws under Canada’s Criminal Code
