From cyberattacks to ESG, four MLT Aikins articles and their authors have captured the Mondaq Thought Leadership Awards.
The autumn edition of these awards recognizes the top legal articles based on total readership between April and September 2023, both internationally and across Canada, and covers a wide range of topics.

About our award-winning authors:
Kristél Kriel and Nathan Schissel are both partners in our Regina office. Kristél and Nathan co-lead the firm’s privacy, data protection & cybersecurity area.
As a Certified Information Privacy Professional (Canada), Kristél regularly acts as a breach coach to clients and provides practical and strategic advice to public and private organizations across all industries about privacy, cybersecurity and freedom of information laws. She also advises clients on online operations, such as e-commerce and electronic contracting, terms of use, copyright, online marketing and contests, as well as domain name disputes.
Similarly, Nathan practises in the area of information technology, cybersecurity, data protection and privacy, intellectual property commercialization and licensing, anti-spam compliance, e-commerce, and mergers and acquisitions. He has served as breach counsel for various clients, responding to a range of complex cybersecurity incidents. These include ransomware attacks, business email compromise (BEC), financial fraud and cross-border data breaches.
Jessica Jensen is an associate at our Winnipeg office, where she practises in Canadian and U.S. immigration law. She is a member in good standing of the Manitoba, Minnesota and North Dakota Bars, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Jessica speaks regularly about immigration law on both sides of the border, and co-wrote the e-book, Tips for Travelling to the U.S. for Work.
Laura Roberts is an ESG specialist based in our Calgary office. She boasts more than 20 years of experience in regulatory approvals, environmental assessment, compliance and sustainability reporting. She has engaged with many levels of government, including the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and the Alberta Energy Regulator. Laura regularly consults Indigenous communities, environmental non-government organizations, community organizations, academics and industry groups.
Maya Douglas works alongside Laura in Calgary, also as an ESG specialist. Boasting more than 12 years of experience, Maya has helped clients manage their ESG risks as well as seize new opportunities to meet global demand for greater impact, transparency, and accountability from corporations about ESG issues, such as greenwashing and Indigenous reconciliation.
John Agioritis is a partner in our Saskatoon office, assisting corporate clients who are navigating regulatory investigations and matters of compliance, risk and crisis response, including occupational health and safety, environmental matters, competition law and cybersecurity.
Zoe Johansen-Hill works alongside John in Saskatoon, practising in the advocacy department and maintaining a labour and employment and general litigation practice. She assists employers navigating their legal obligations in managing their workforce, and represents employers in litigation matters. Zoe’s practice includes cases of wrongful dismissal, human rights, employment standards, employment contracts and policies, and occupational health and safety.
